Advanced Illness Management (AIM)

The Advanced Illness Management (AIM) program delivers primary care in the patient’s home through physician- and nurse practitioner-led care teams. Our program makes outpatient care accessible to homebound seniors who otherwise might go without. Our providers are dedicated to partnering with patients and families in an effort to understand goals for medical care and to bring comfort and dignity by keeping patients at home surrounded by family and dedicated caregivers.

Asthma Clinical Research Center

The Beth Thalheim Asthma Center consists of two primary divisions: The Beth Thalheim Center for Asthma Education created to educate patients and physicians about therapy and current research into the causes and treatments of asthma and The Asthma Clinical Research Center, in cooperation with the Nassau-Suffolk Chapter of the American Lung Association, is part of a large network formed to carry out multicenter clinical trials.

Sandra Atlas Bass Cardiology Centers

Located at North Shore University Hospital and LIJ Medical Center, the Sandra Atlas Bass Cardiology Centers are devoted to providing innovative, comprehensive, state-of-the-art patient care for all aspects of heart disease. The philanthropic support of Sandra Atlas Bass has helped create one of the leading cardiac services programs in the country, with both centers having earned a national reputation in cardiology and cardiac surgery.

Northwell Health Neuroscience Institute

The Northwell Health Neuroscience Institute brings together the vast resources of our network to provide state-of-the-art medical care while contributing to advances in research and education. 

Department of Medicine Clinical Research Fund

As North Shore-LIJ continues to grow and expand its mission as an academic health system devoted to providing the latest resources to identify the causes and cures for illnesses, the Department of Medicine’s pursuit of clinical research becomes increasingly important. Over the last several decades, clinical research has been used to guide the practice of “evidence based medicine” and has resulted in tremendous advancements in the field of healthcare. One of our primary objectives is to promote and capitalize on the creativity, confidence, and energy of our outstanding young physician investigators who have the intellect, scientific creativity, drive, and maturity to flourish, develop independent careers in research, and help shape the future of medicine.

Hagedorn Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Center

The multidisciplinary team approach at the Hagedorn Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Center in Great Neck ensures that children affected by these disorders receive new hope for the future. The Hagedorn Center offers treatment, instruction and emotional support to young patients and their families, and all children regardless of age or financial status are welcome.

Helping to Heal

Helping to Heal, a Northwell Health Global Surgery Initiative (GSI), is a collaborative and centralized approach to promote universal access to safe and quality surgical treatment. Helping to Heal fosters this objective through clinical care, education, research, advocacy, philanthropy, and volunteerism.

Katz Institute for Women's Health

Katz Institute for Women's Health (KIWH) strives to improve the health of women across their life spans by defining the standards of excellence in health and wellness services. KIWH is a valuable entranceway for women and their families seeking a path to coordinated, accessible care. Through community outreach, research, leadership development and the integration of North Shore-LIJ's world-class clinical care services, KIWH promotes the continuum of women's health, from education, prevention and early detection to treatment and support services.

Sandra Atlas Bass Center for Liver Diseases

Liver disease affects more than 60 million Americans and it is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. To address this significant public health issue, the Department of Medicine at North Shore-LIJ has established a new Center for Liver Diseases to facilitate the clinical care, research and educational push to combat this devastating illness. The highest quality of care, comfort and compassion for patients has always been a hallmark of the services provided to patients with liver disease at North Shore-LIJ. This new highly visible and utilized space will enhance our ability to provide the very best care for patients and their families suffering from this devastating illness in the most aesthetically pleasing environment possible.

Medical Ethics Division of Medicine

The Division of Medical Ethics was created in 2011 in the Department of Medicine to build upon the health system’s successful track record and commitment to incorporate bioethics into clinical practice and physician education. The Division Chief is Dr. Samuel Packer who also is Chair of the Ethics Committees at North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center. The Ethics Consult Service functions as an arm of the Ethics Committee and is led by Renee McLeod-Sordjan, and the Medical Ethics Attending staff: Frederick Smith, Lourdes Bahamonde, Mitchell Adler and William Doscher. In addition we have an Ethics Fellowship program and significant responsibilities for Professionalism education at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ Health System School of Medicine. Our focus is Clinical Medical Ethics and education.

New York Head and Neck Institute

The mission of the New York Head and Neck Institute (NYHNI), part of North Shore-LIJ Health System, is to provide seamless, integrated care across the many specialty fields for people with disorders of the head and neck. We are committed to compassionate, patient-first treatment with trusted doctor-patient relationships. We firmly believe in completely sharing all available information with our patients, powering every patient as an equal partner when it comes to decisions regarding their care. At NYNHI, our patients always come first.

Northwell Health Rehabilitation Network

The Northwell Health Rehabilitation Network, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System is dedicated to providing patients and their family with results-oriented, comprehensive rehabilitation services. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff of physiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other health professionals are chosen as much for their compassion as for their skill and experience. They are trained in the latest physical rehabilitation techniques and will develop a customized treatment plan to speed up recovery, decrease pain and return patients to their activities. Our physical rehabilitation staff provides patients with the education, support and motivation they need.

Sondra and David Mack Center for Emergency Medical Services

The largest hospital-based ambulance service in the New York metropolitan area and one of the largest in the United States, the Sondra and David Mack Center for Emergency Medical Services (CEMS) in Syosset is dedicated to meeting the community's needs for emergency ambulance and routine transfer services. The CEMS is a leading provider of emergency management training in the region, including a federally designated and funded bioterrorism training program.

The Office of Military and Veterans' Liaison Services

Long Island has a proud tradition of military service. In fact, with 150,000 veterans in Nassau and Suffolk Counties making it the tenth-largest veteran population in the country. They become business and community leaders and they inspire their neighbors with their work ethic and love for their country, but the transition home isn't always easy. The Office of Military and Veterans' Liaison Services ensures returning veterans and their families receive the psychological and emotional care they truly need and deserve.

Northwell Health Cancer Institute

Designed with skylights and an indoor garden, the Northwell Health Cancer Institute in Lake Success is an integral part of Northwell Health's nationally recognized Cancer Institute. The Northwell Health Cancer Institute is a place where patients can benefit from the most advanced treatments delivered by renowned cancer experts within a comfortable, nurturing environment all close to home.

Palliative Care Suite

The newly opened Palliative Care Suite at North Shore University Hospital is dedicated to the relief of pain and suffering for patients facing life-limiting illnesses. Featuring private rooms and unlimited around-the-clock visiting hours, its unique atmosphere provides tranquility to patients and their loved ones including a central waterfall that creates a peaceful and calming serenity.

The Plastic Surgery Education, Research, & Training (PSERT) Foundation

The mission of Plastic Surgery Education, Research, and Training (PSERT) Foundation is to optimize patient care and outcomes through research and education. Through the generous support of patients, corporate sponsors, and other supporters, PSERT promotes research by facilitating clinical and basic science studies. Additionally, PSERT fosters the training of plastic surgeons by supporting education in the form of textbooks, medical journals, educational conferences, and visiting professorships. The research and educational initiatives of PSERT make a significant contribution to the high quality care and outcomes of patients.

Janet and John Raggio Nephrology Institute

Located in Great Neck, the Janet and John Raggio Nephrology Institute realizes that better education and early detection are the best defenses against chronic kidney disease. In addition to serving as a center of excellence for all aspects of renal clinical care and research, the institute offers a Renal Education Program to provide at-risk patients with a thorough understanding of kidney functions and disease prevention.

Florence and Robert A. Rosen Family Wellness Center

The Florence and Robert A. Rosen Family Wellness Center is dedicated to enhancing the physical and mental well-being of veteran military personnel and their families as well as law enforcement officers and their families living in the New York metropolitan region. The staff of the Rosen Center is specially trained to handle issues unique to this group of men and women, and the center offers a variety of services including workshops, counseling and referrals.

Arthur Smith Institute for Urology

The Arthur Smith Institute for Urology in Lake Success is dedicated to improving the lives of patients by advancing the field of urology. Under the direction of pioneering surgeon Louis R. Kavoussi, MD, the institute has achieved an international reputation for the treatment of urologic disease through innovative surgical procedures, diagnostics and medical care.

The Stern Family Center for Rehabilitation

For more than 20 years, The Stern Family Center for Rehabilitation has been addressing the health needs of the aging and short-term rehabilitation populations. In recent years, the Stern Center has extended its services to a younger population, specializing in short term rehabilitation for orthopedic, cardiac, neurological and complex medical patients. It is though the generosity of philanthropic benefactors, corporate partners, foundations, friends and former patients that we are able to provide the highest standards of medical excellence that allows the majority of the Stern Center’s residents to continue their recovery at home.
