The first surgeon on Long Island to perform the innovative Sleeve procedure, Dr. Buchin’s thorough background in the study and implementation of surgical weight loss procedures has made him a leading surgeon in the field.

Dr. Buchin is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, as well as a board-certified general surgeon. In addition, he has been certified in Lap Band surgery, Realize Band surgery, Laparoscopic Bypass surgery, the Sleeve gastrectomy and the StomaphyX™ procedure.

With more than 10 years of experience in general and minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Buchin has been performing weight loss surgery since 2005. He completed a surgical residency at North Shore-LIJ Health System before embarking on a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery at the Minimally Invasive Institute of New York. Now, as director of Bariatric Surgery at Huntington Hospital, Dr. Buchin is able to combine his experience with state-of-the-art facilities to enhance the lives of obesity sufferers through surgical weight loss.

Sophia Mcleod, RPA-C MSPAS - Physician Assistant and Bariatric Coordinator

With more than six years of experience with gastric bypass, laparoscopic band fitting and adjustments, and Sleeve gastrectomies, Sophia Mcleod puts her expertise to work as Dr. Buchin’s assistant surgeon. She works closely with patients before and after their surgery, making it her priority to inform and educate each patient as well as to monitor their recovery.

Lisa Becker, BSN, RN, CNOR - Nurse Educator and Bariatric Coordinator

Lisa Becker has supplemented her 26 years of operating room experience with extensive research on bariatric and perioperative education. She leads the clinical staff in providing specialized care to each bariatric patient, making sure the needs of both patient and family are met before, during and after surgery.
